At the Boys & Girls Club, sports are never just about the game...they help unlock character, leadership, and teamwork skills. And ten-year-old Jordan knows this all too well. As a member of the Spencer D. & Mary Jane Stewart Branch, Jordan has been able to enjoy participating in all the programs the Club has to offer. But it is sports that keep him coming back. A likable young man that kids look up to, Jordan has played in as many sports as he can, including basketball, flag football, wiffle ball, and golf.
With the guidance of the Club's staff, Jordan has matured tremendously this past year, becoming a leader to other Club members, leading the Club's all-star and flag football leagues, cheering on his teammates to give 100%, helping out in other areas of the Club, and looking forward to a bright future.
Sports play a very important role in teaching a child to develop intrapersonal skills and helping them learn to work as a team. Jordan has not only found a great way to stay healthy and feel good about himself, but also a way for him to develop character and become a leader at the Club.
The Sports, Fitness, and Recreation core program promotes physical fitness, positive use of leisure time, skills for stress management, appreciation for the environment, and social and interpersonal skills. Through this program, children learn about teamwork, honesty, and responsibility; they acquire self confidence; and incorporate healthy choices into their lives.
From games to organized sports and other recreational programs, there is truly an activity for everyone.
