Youth Hone New Skills at Leadership Conference

Pacific Region Keystone Conference Attracts Hundreds of Young Leaders

More than 450 young leaders from Arizona, California, Washington, Oregon and Nevada converged on the Valley of the Sun for the 2011 Regional Keystone Conference sponsored by the Taco Bell Foundation for Teens on October 28, 2011.

The three-day conference provided leadership training and a forum for teens to tackle one of the most significant issues impacting youth: bullying. Youth also shared innovative community service project ideas around the national theme of "After the Cameras Are Gone" an initiative to explore what happens to survivors of catastrophic life events after media coverage fades.

Youth also participated in intensive workshops around graduation success, career exploration, and even toured college campuses at Arizona State University and Grand Canyon University.

The I.G. Homes Keystone Club also received a Membership Recruitment Award and Colangelo Keystone Club Member Jenny B. was awarded a $2500 college scholarship from the Taco Bell Foundation for Teens.

Club Kids Get Active with Pedal Power

Kids earn their way to new bikes and safety gear

For many children, receiving their first bicycle and learning how to ride it is a childhood milestone, although this is a luxury some families can't provide.

To help more kids experience the excitement of owning a bike, Pedal Power Foundation and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix teamed up to create "Passport to Pedal Power."

The goal-driven program was test piloted last summer at Tri-City West/Thornwood Branch and the Jerry Colangelo Branch, and will be expanded to other Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix locations this spring, providing new bikes to dozens of deserving kids in Phoenix and the West Valley.

Through "Passport to Pedal Power," kids gain more than just a new bike, helmet and lock, but also a sense of ownership, responsibility, and accomplishment, helping them set health, fitness and good Club citizenship goals as they earn their way to their very own bike!

For more information about the program and to find out how you can help, please call 602-954-8182.
