KTAR's Gear up for Kids!

Help keep kids healthy and fit by donating new or gently used sporting equipment during Doug & Wolf’s 3rd Annual Gear up for Kids campaign. It takes a tremendous amount of sports gear to keep kids at all 12 Branches of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix active and engaged in sports each year. We need your help to ensure that all kids who want to play have enough equipment to really enjoy the games! Gather up your gear and drop it off at one of the Gear Up 4 Kids collection sites across the Valley, including local WalMart stores, or make a cash donation to help Doug & Wolf buy new equipment for the Clubs!

AT THE CLUBS

Club Kid Designs New Poore Brothers Potato Chip Bag!

The winning design was unveiled in front of a packed house at The Big Event last Friday night, with top honors going to longtime Club member, 12-year-old Abigail R.. Starting today, Abigail’s winning artwork can be seen on every bag of Poore Brothers Original Potato Chips!

National Scholarship Recipient Meets Hank Aaron!

(Photo: Gregory E. Smith) Andrew Johnson and Dream Chasers
from around the country meet baseball legend Hank Aaron in
New Orleans

For as long as he can remember, 12-year-old Andrew Johnson has always dreamed of becoming a world-class viola player, but his family didn’t have the resources to pay for proper training. Thankfully, the Boys & Girls Clubs was able to help. Four years ago, Andrew was awarded the Hank Aaron Chasing the Dream scholarship to begin his viola studies, and today he is well on his way to achieving his dream!

Last month, Andrew and 21 other scholarship recipients from around the country were recognized at the 2011 Boys & Girls Clubs of America National Conference. Not only was Andrew a special guest at the conference in New Orleans, he also got to tour the city and meet Baseball Hall of Famer Hank Aaron! The Dream Chasers spent quality time with Aaron and his wife, sharing dinner and discussing their aspirations. Congratulations Andrew!
