Elio was only six years old when he walked through the doors of opportunity at the Harry & Sandy Rosenzweig Branch. Once inside the Club, he immediately felt at home and was especially attracted to the Learning Center where he received assistance with his home work and began developing a life long love or learning.
At the Club, education specialists work to provide children with a myriad of age-appropriate activities to stimulate Club members' interest in learning. Unlike assignments in class, Power Hour is conducted in a non-threatening and fun after-school environment with the help of professionals that supervise and guide the completion of homework. For Elio, since his parents were not able to help him with his homework, the learning center became instrumental in his success.
At the Boys & Girls Club, the Education and Career Development core program enables youth to become proficient in basic educational disciplines, apply learning to everyday situations, and embrace technology to optimize employability.
In recent outcome measure surveys 77% of the BGCMP's kids stated that they do not have a computer at home to use. And 56% of the survey's respondents indicated that if they did not do their homework at the Boys & Girls Club their homework would not get done at all. The education and career development core program provides the essential tools for our community's youth to become successful adults creating a better future:
