State Torch Club Conference

Kids ages 11 to 13 from five Clubs traveled to Tucson on May 8th for the State Torch Club Conference. The kids learned about character and leadership, teamwork, and volunteerism with other Club members from across the state. The kids representing the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix presented a community awareness project on tobacco prevention. The kids had a great trip and learned many things along the way, and enjoyed the hospitality of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tucson!

Goals for Graduation

GraduatesThis program is designed for 13-18 year olds, and provides academic goal setting tools to help them achieve a high school diploma. Members participate in activities that teach time management, priority setting and decision making to help members realize the importance of being responsible students. The teens in this program also participate in Power Hour, an hour of the day set aside strictly for homework.

At the Jerry Colangelo Branch all members’ academic achievements are posted in the Learning Center which not only makes those in the program proud of their accomplishments, but encourages others to participate in the program too. This year the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix was proud to have 70 members throughout the Valley graduate with the class of 2010! Congratulations graduates!

Fox Sports Arizona Character Counts Kid of the Month -- Anthony

Anthony is a teen member of the Warner A. Gabel Branch. He is a fantastic basketball player and an exemplary role model to younger members of his Club, including his three younger sisters. When Anthony is not on the basketball court or in the Club’s Teen Center he can be found volunteering around the Club. “It’s better to help than to be bored” says Anthony. Congratulations Anthony for being named this month’s Character Counts Kid of the Month!

Volunteers of the Month - The Big Event Chairs

The Big Event, held on Saturday, June 5th at the 5th Avenue & Madison Event Center was a BIG success, in large part thanks to the dedication and commitment of our “Big Event” chairs, and this month's volunteers of the month:

Big Event Chairman, Tim Emory
Auction Item Procurement, Linda Mason
Event Logistics, Cindy Baczewski
Event Marketing, Catherine Herman-Aker
Food & Beverage Procurement, Kevin O’Shaughnessy

This “fab five” led the charge for MetroOrg, a volunteer group of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix, who hosted this amazing evening of silent and live auctions, food and fun. Their efforts helped The Big Event raise BIG funds for the BGCMP. We would like to recognize our volunteers for a job well done and for all that they do all year long to support our Clubs and our kids!

Charitable Giving – Leave the Legacy of Your Choice

Gentleman ThinkingDo you own stock that was purchased a number of years ago? Perhaps overall it was a good investment, but you are now uncertain about leaving your savings in the market where it could go up or down? Are you looking for security for your retirement plan and want to know that you will have the income you need, when you need it?

A good choice might be to set up a gift annuity with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix. A gift annuity is a great way to secure your finances for the future, but also helps the future of our Valley's youth.

If you would like to learn more about our planned giving program, please call (602) 954-8182 or e-mail bkuluris@bgcmp.org
