The Great Turkey Give-A-Way

Turkey DonationThis year the National Basketball Players Association donated 500 turkeys for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Turkeys were distributed to Club members and their families who would not have had the joy of a Thanksgiving meal without the donation.

Thank you to the National Basketball Players Association!

Executive Council Holiday Shopping Event

Holiday ShoppingOn December 8th, the Executive Council and friends took over 80 Club kids on a holiday shopping excursion.

Kids were able to pick out new clothes, shoes, and toys. Some kids even picked out gifts for their family members that weren’t able to attend.

A special thanks to JCPenny and Paradise Valley Mall for their continued support of our shopping events.

Learning Digital Arts

The Harry and Sandy Rosenzweig Branch has instituted a Digital Arts Club for its members. This club reaches out to kids ages 6-12 teaching them the fundamentals of Adobe Photoshop Elements 5.0 and Microsoft Digital Image Suite.

The club meets Tuesdays and Thursdays and rotates members so that more kids can participate. Once they have learned the basics, the kids have the opportunity to create an advertisement for the national BE Great campaign or a bumper sticker promoting the success of a past Club member.

Spelling Bee Winners!

The Louis & Elizabeth Sands Branch’s spelling bee was a very educational and exciting event.

With one winning student per grade the winners included: Abhi Sharda, 2nd Grade; Sohail Daulat, 3rd Grade; Kathleen Murray, 4th Grade; Erika Hinkle, 5th Grade; Gio Markovich, 6th Grade; Aaron Frost, 7th Grade.

Congratulations to all of our winners! Keep up the good work!

Movie Under the Stars

On December 3rd, the Herbert Kieckhefer Branch hosted a “Movie Under the Stars” night for kids and their families. This event was part of a Club-wide effort to encourage families to spend more quality time together.

They enjoyed hot chocolate, desserts and popcorn while watching a holiday favorite, “Polar Express”, projected onto the side of the Club building. It was a great event that brought together the Club and the community.

Volunteers of the Month - Brady Young

Brady Young is an up-and-coming human resources professional who is making a difference at the Warner A. Gabel Branch. Although he has only been a volunteer with the organization for a little over a year, he has a passion to help teens grow into responsible adults. Brady volunteers his time by leading the teens through the Money Matters: Make it Count financial literacy program. This program was designed specifically to help teens expand their knowledge of money management and learn the skills that lead to financial independence and well-being.

Brady has a way with the teens. While financial responsibility is typically the last priority in a young person’s life, Brady has earned the respect of the teen members who are now eager to learn more. This coming year, Brady will be back to help the teens learn the ins and outs of landing a job, from building the perfect resume to knowing what to say in an interview through the Career Launch program. Thank you Brady for volunteering to make a difference in our teens lives!

If you are interested in learning more about volunteering, please visit our website or call (602) 954-8182.
