Today, the demand for our programs and services is greater than ever before, and partners like LifeLock are helping us meet the needs of children in our community. Thank you, Todd Davis and LifeLock for your continued support of our mission and our Valley’s youth.

College & Career Fair

Kids meeting with Army RepresentativePreparing for life after high school can be both an exciting and overwhelming experience. Applying for college, finding a job, and entering the workforce can seem almost impossible without the right tools and guidance from mentors.

To help our teens feel confident and prepared for the new challenges ahead of them, the Jerry Colangelo Branch hosted a College and Career Fair on April 9th. At the Fair, teens had the opportunity to meet with representatives from Arizona State University, Grand Canyon University, Phoenix College, South Mountain Community College, Universal Technical Institute, and the Army. Also in attendance were professionals from a number of different trades to talk with students about potential career paths.

A special thank you to all of the schools and representatives that helped make this event a success!

The Teen Journal Club

Teens at the Jerry Colangelo Branch are learning how to express themselves through writing. During their meetings they learn the basic principles of writing, editing, photography and comics. This is a wonderful opportunity for teens to enhance their skills and also gives a voice to the topics that relate to the youth in the community. The Teen Journal Club produces a monthly newsletter that they share with the rest of the Jerry Colangelo Branch.  <<See here>>

Girls on the Run

Girls on the Run LogoGirls ages 8-12 are making a run for it! By participating in Girls on the Run, young women are learning lessons that help develop positive self-esteem, community leadership, healthy living, as well as enhance emotional, social, mental, and physical development.

New Balance, a sponsor of Girls on the Run, donated three new pairs of running shoes to the girls at the Warner A. Gabel Branch. The program is a hit and they are always excited to attend the next session.

Fox Sports Arizona Character Counts Kids of the Month -- Adan & Alexxis

Eight year-old Adan is known at the Spencer D. & Mary Jane Stewart Branch for his optimism and positive attitude. One reason Adan loves coming to the Club is because he’s not alone -- his two older sisters and younger brother all attend the Club as well. Adan’s favorite part of the Club is the gym where he loves to play basketball and soccer. Adan claims that the Club “is the funnest place in the whole entire world!”

Another shining star at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix is Alexxis. Like Adan, Alexxis’ Club experience is a family affair. She and her three brothers all attend the Tri-City West/Thornwood Branch. Alexxis is an outstanding student always completing her homework before she moves on to other activities at the Club. Once done with her studying, Alexxis likes to spend her time in the Art Room.

Congratulations to both of our Character Counts Kids of the Month!
